Certified Dungeon Monitor Program

Today's Dungeon Monitor’s position goes well beyond simply watching players. The Dungeon Monitor must posses a wide range of skills that include interpersonal and group communication, knowledge of conflict resolution, an understanding of playroom etiquette and equipment safety, the ability to work with security issues and have the ability to be the first contact with EMS and law enforcement officials.

The DM Certification program is designed for those who volunteer to be our line of defense and provides them with these core skills. The program is also helpful for SM players as well. It provides a foundation of BDSM First Aid techniques. Certification is awarded upon successful completion of all course modules.

This program is a two (2) day training program.

Day 1:

Morning Session: - Core Basics and Intervention Skills

DM Organization and Core Responsibilities - This course provides the foundation skills for handling DM situations. Topics include the DM mind set, floor management, communication strategies between the DMs, and team work in crisis situation. Also includes suggested polices for handling security issues, protecting member safety, solutions for inordinate members and working with surprise visits from law enforcement agencies.

Personal Crisis Intervention - Often interpersonal tension surface in the dungeon and the DM is called upon to intervene before a situation erupts into disruption or violent conflict. This course introduces the concepts of nonviolent crisis management, how to recognize the points of departure as an individuals move from phase to phase and positive intervention techniques to deescalate personal tension and come to positive resolution

The WIS System - DMs are required to make judgment calls on other people’s play styles and are then often called into question when doing so. This course introduces the WIS system. This system provides the DM with the tools needed to make objective calls and prescribe prudent action. The course observes a wide range of play styles and identifies crisis situations to be aware. Safety equipment usage is also covered.

Afternoon Session: BDSM First Aid ( First Responders Strategies and Techniques

Common Accidents - This course teaches first aid skill needed to address common accidents that occur in the dungeon. Topics include: care for deep tissue bruises, sprains, abrasions, friction burns, split skin wounds, cuts, and imbedded objects. Allergic reactions are covered and the burn types are categorized and addressed. Topic includes how to, extinguishing fires with both wet towels and fire extinguisher, care for natural burns (cinnamon, ginger, etc) open flame burns and electric burns

Blood Borne Pathogens - This section covers inherent risk in the Dungeon or personal play. Topics include a review of Blood Borne Pathogens, longevity charts of how long blood borne pathogens last on a surface, dispersion patterns, self protection and cleaning techniques.

Day 2:

Distress, Feinting and Extraction Techniques - Occasionally a player becomes distressed, collapses and become entangles in the play equipment. This course addresses this situation. Topics include: identifying subs in distress vs. sub space, extraction techniques and body handling and transport methods. Also includes hands on extractions from rope, chain and handcuff exercises.

Beyond First Aid - On rare occasion equipment collapses and a player sustains a serious injury. This course addresses working to stabilize back and neck injury, fractures and concussions. Covers making the 911 call and working with the arrival of EMS and law enforcement personnel.

Afternoon Session: CPR Training

About DM Certification:

The Council of Tribes certification program is modeled after the American Heart Association and American Red Cross programs. We certify that participants have taken a specialized program, adhering to a set curriculum.

The COT Certified DM Trainers have also been trained in the COT methodology and practices of Dungeon Monitoring. <Click Here for Detailed Information about Certification>
